A ribbed glass dome on a plain brass plate, and a bulb sitting inside it. What makes the piece is not the fitting but what it does to the wall: the flutes act as lenses, throwing a full sunburst of light and shadow well past the edge of the fixture, so the fitting is small and the effect is not. Unlit it reads as a modest piece of brass and glass beside a door. Lit, the wall behind it does the work. It mounts on the wall or the ceiling, which makes it useful in corridors where neither position is obviously right.
