A straight-sided stone tumbler, hollowed out and left rough on the outside.
The walls are thick, the base is flat and heavy, and the top edge is cut square rather than rounded off. The pitting in the stone runs all the way through, so the surface stays matt and slightly chalky to the touch even when wet.
It takes toothbrushes, or brushes on a dressing table, or a handful of pencils on a desk. Stone in a bathroom does something a ceramic pot cannot: it stops the room looking like it was bought as a set.
