A flat plate of travertine with an opal glass globe hung directly beneath it, so the shade sits like a ring around the light rather than over it. The stone throws nothing downward, since all of that is the globe's job. Instead it catches the upward spill across its pitted surface, which is where the warmth in the room comes from. The whole thing reads as two simple geometries that have agreed to share a cord: a disc, a sphere, a short terracotta stem between them.
