A slim column of pale alabaster with a sleeve of dark veined marble wrapped around its middle, like a band on a cigar. The alabaster glows evenly top and bottom; the marble band stays solid and dark, cutting the column into two lit sections. It is a small piece of tailoring rather than sculpture; the interest comes entirely from the interruption. Eight centimetres across and thirty tall, so it hangs in a narrow vertical line: three in a row over an island, or one beside a bed.
