A square column of walnut with a matte black collar set over the top, the two materials meeting in a clean horizontal line halfway up. The black section holds a weighted flap that swings open under a hand and falls shut on its own: no pedal, no lid to lift, nothing to touch twice. The proportions are deliberately tall and narrow, so it takes twelve litres while occupying about the footprint of a book. Against a dark floor it reads as a plinth; the fact that it is a bin is almost incidental.
