A wide ring of travertine with a pale sphere sitting on top of it, the two forms held together by nothing more complicated than balance. The stone is left raw-cut and open-pored across its whole face, so the light washing up from inside catches every hollow. Because the ring is broad and the source recessed, the glare disappears entirely; what reaches the table is diffuse and low. At forty centimetres across it becomes the object in a room; at thirty it settles for being the best thing over the table.
