A matte, sanded glaze that reads as split stone rather than ceramic: dry to the touch, faintly ridged, absorbing light instead of reflecting it. The cup is a plain cylinder with a squared-off handle; the saucer is a simple disc with a shallow well. In black it looks like slate, in white like unglazed plaster. There is no decoration at all, which is the entire proposition: it is the cup that makes whatever is in it look better.
