A single slab of marble cut into a disc, backlit, with brass numerals at the quarters and two fine black hands. Unlit it is a handsome stone clock. Lit, the light comes through from behind and the veining turns from grey to smoke against a warm amber field, so the face changes character entirely after dark. The numerals stay legible; everything else softens. Thirty centimetres across, which reads as a clock from a distance and as a light from the doorway.
