A slender bough runs along the wall with birds poised on the limbs as if they had paused mid flight, and the leaves gather into small sprays where it meets the plaster.
Cast in copper and polished bright, so it throws light back into the room rather than swallowing it, while the surface keeps the faint irregularity of real wood. The birds are modelled in the round, feathers and all, so it holds up to being looked at closely and not only from the doorway.
It takes coats at the door, towels in a cloakroom, the daily tangle of keys and caps and canvas bags. Give it a pale wall so the shine has room to register, or a deeper colour if you would rather the gold sang.
