Eclipse Marble Sconce

A plain disc of stone held off the wall on a slim iron body, lit from behind. Two things happen at once: the stone itself glows from within, pale where it is thin and dark where the veining thickens, and a ring of light escapes around the rim onto the plaster behind. The fitting stays out of sight, so the stone is the only thing you read, and because natural stone is irregular, no two discs are figured alike. Twenty-five centimetres across and almost flat to the wall, the sort of fitting that works in a hallway where nothing should stick out.
