A mosaic border in glass type mother of pearl, printed with a shell pattern and laid in even rows of cream, oyster and pale taupe so it reads as a Mother of Pearl chequerboard rather than a random scatter. The tones are soft and the pattern stays quiet; it never tips into being graphic. A slim metal edge tidies the whole thing. There is a lot of small detail here for a piece this size, and it rewards being seen close up. A good candidate for a bathroom shelf or a bedside table, where it will be looked at from arm's length rather than across a room.
