A single steel rod leaning forward off a triangular wire base, with a shallow conical shade tipped over at the top and a solid sphere on the floor as counterweight. Every part is doing structural work and nothing is hidden. You can see exactly why it stands up, which is the pleasure of it. The shade angles down and forward, putting light on a book rather than a wall. In grey-green or deep red it belongs to the fifties; in black it disappears into any room.
