Two rings of stone locked through one another, one black and veined, one white and veined, cut so cleanly that the join reads as a single piece rather than an assembly. The stone is polished to a low shine that shows the grain without turning it glassy, and the weight is immediate the moment you pick it up. On a desk it works as a paperweight that never gets used as one. On a shelf between books it does what good abstract sculpture does: gives the eye somewhere to rest.
