A turned wooden stem in a dark bronze finish, weighted at the foot and flared at the shoulder, carrying a wide empire shade in slubbed fabric. Everything about the proportion is borrowed from the reading lamps that stood in club libraries: the shade is deep enough to keep the bulb out of your eye at seated height, and the light lands on the page rather than the room. At a hundred and fifty-five centimetres it stands just above the arm of a sofa, where a standard lamp is supposed to stand.
